Synopsis
Chinas follows Lucía, Xiang, and Claudia—three girls of Chinese origin living in Madrid with different realities. Lucía, the 9-year-old daughter of Chinese immigrants, dreams of a birthday at Burger King, while her parents work long hours in a bazaar. Claudia, her teenage sister, confronts cultural differences and racism at school. Xiang, a 9-year-old adoptee, begins to question her biological family.
Their stories intertwine in a nuanced exploration of identity. Nominated for four Goya® Awards, the film challenges European paternalism and the racism faced by Chinese communities across countries.

This Mexican debut film by director Pierre Saint Martin is shot with hypnotic black-and-white cinematography. While it may sound like a thriller, We Shall Not Be Moved is a fable offering a unique take on historical trauma and personal healing. Mexican actress Luisa Huertas, in one of the best roles of her career, adds humanity and sensitivity to her character, paying homage to all families trapped in mourning for the death of a relative during armed conflict.
